An update on What’s On in CMK during June…

 

Theatre District Mascot Olympics - Saturday 5^th June
The annual Mascot Olympics is being held on Saturday 5^th June at the Theatre District with half the money raised being donated to the Spinal Injuries Association. At 10:45am Mascots and the audience can join in an Energie Fitness warm up, the games begin at 11am and will be officially opened by the Mayor of Milton Keynes. The Mascots will battle with various obstacles and games until the prize presentation at 4:15pm. For more information see: Theatre District .  Calling young volunteers – the Penalty Shoot Out needs YOU to shoot goals at the Mascots, if you are interested please email sara.mills@theatre-district.co.uk 
 

Destination Dining in Queens Court is open to the public from Friday 11^th June with the launch of Milton Keynes’ first YO! Sushi restaurant.  The new development also includes Carluccios, Cafe Rouge and Nandos – all of which are opening over the next month. The development features extensive re-landscaping to give a welcoming, contemporary environment and the four restaurants have under-cover seating in winter garden style colonnades overlooking the revitalised central courtyard.

Garden Show - 04^th to 06^th June - see fresh ideas and inspiration, browse the stands to see the tools, accessories and gadgets that are available to make your tasks easier and more enjoyable.

Volunteers Fair - 08^th June - each year this fair is held to highlight the excellent work done in the community. If you have a passion to become more involved find out first hand what 's involved.

Mother, Baby & Toddler Show – 10^th to 13^th June - see plenty of exhibitors and a variety of solutions for raising your children.

Motor Show – 17^th to 20^th June 2010 – giving you the exclusive chance to view latest models from manufacturers including Alfa Romeo, Saab and Vauxhall and a chance to talk to local dealerships. For more information see: www.thecentremk.com  

The Life and Times of Milton Keynes Gallery

Until th 27^th June 2010 - Mark Leckey has collaborated with Martin McGeown, Director of Cabinet Gallery, London, to produce a series of new works based on the Gallery’s ten year history. The exhibition includes new film, sculpture, drawings and installations.

Thursday 10^th June, 6 - 8pm, free - Leckey and McGeown will present a talk/performance in an attempt to activate The Life and Times of Milton Keynes Gallery. Book on 01908 676 900.  Please let them know of any access requirements when booking.

17^th June - Film Club: Solaris directed by Andrei Tarkovsky
Solaris is about the futile attempt by cosmonauts to communicate with an alien life-form on the distant planet Solaris - an 'ocean' that is a single organism. As attempts to communicate become forced, the alien being experiments on the researchers by confronting them with their thoughts and memories. There will be an informal discussion afterwards. 24^th June - A Live Performance by the Ladies of the Press
The artists Ana Èaviæ and Renée O'Drobinak have amassed an eclectic assortment of images and ephemera from the Milton Keynes Gallery archive, inspiring a participatory performance that invites participants to create a collage using press cuttings. The duo are champions of trash culture who like to encrust everything they do with a 'glittered kitsch'. See: www.ladiesofthepress.org . For more information see: www.mk-g.org

Race for Life is Cancer Research UK's flagship event. Road closures:

Saturday 05^th - For the safety of the participants and the public the temporary closure of part of Overgate is required from its junction with Glebe Roundabout to its junction with Cricket Green Roundabout from 10.30am to 12.30pm each day. Whilst the road is closed the alternative route will be via Silbury Boulevard, Marlborough Gate and Avebury Boulevard and vice versa.

On Sunday 06^th the 10k run will result in temporary closure of Pattison Lane, Woolstone will be closed to through traffic from its junction with H7 Chaffron Way to its junction with Marshall’s Lane from 10.30 to 12.30 on Sunday 6^th June 2010.

 

Midsummer Fayre - Campbell Park
