In time, we will have a fully functional dedicated website in operation that will detail everything you need to know about us and the City of Milton Keynes ‘after eight’.
For now, let us tell you a little about the After8 Group; why it was set up; what we do and how you can get involved.
The After8 Group was formed to promote and improve the experience for visitors and people living in the City in the evening. Through the Central Milton Keynes Partnership (now MKCCM), a group of individuals from a diverse range of businesses and organisations have formed the After8 Group – dedicated to promoting the vibrancy of Central Milton Keynes’ evening entertainment and facilities.
There are two After8 working groups already established to focus on transport and operational issues and communications. Members' of the groups include the Theatre District, Xscape, The Hub, Barwatch, Ward and Parish Councillors, MK Council, Thames Valley Police plus many other influential and professional individuals and organisations.
Everyone involved shares a passion and vision for ensuring CMK provides a great night out no matter what your age or particular interest. Ultimately, we want to identify improvements to your City, talk to the right people for you and action this to help grow Milton Keynes into one of the best evening experiences in the country.
So, why here? Why now? Why Milton Keynes?
Milton Keynes has a varied and vibrant evening economy with over 40 bars, pubs and clubs in the City Centre alone – and it’s growing. There is also a great choice of restaurants and coffee shops, the theatre, gallery, cinemas, skiing, skydiving, and an ice-rink all within the City Centre. It is one of the safest places in the UK but it continues to face challenges in keeping this great offering at its best.
With over 90,000 locals and visitors enjoying the CMK night life each week, the group will tackle issues ranging from safety to general awareness of all the facilities available.
Our City Centre as a whole employs over 1,500 people in the evenings alone and our licensed venue’s have the capacity to hold in excess of 36,000 people.
The After8 Working Groups focus in more detail:
• Operations & Transport - looking at service standards, getting home safely, information sharing, safety and crime reduction as well as taxi provision and management, public transport links, parking provision and pedestrian routes and accessibility.
• Communications and Marketing - understanding perceptions, current issues and customer needs, promoting the offer and providing information to assist both customers and operators.
