Milton Keynes is a great night out for everyone.  Have fun and stay safe!

After8 and SaferMK work together to help you have an enjoyable and safe night out in Milton Keynes.  Here are a few tips to make sure you have the best night possible:

Drink responsibly and in moderation.  Know your limits and look out for your friends too.  Try not to drink on an empty stomach - tap water is free in most venues if you ask at the bar.  Pace yourself.

Look after your possessions.  Make sure you know where your belongings are at all times.  Keep handbags, wallets, cash, cards, mobiles and mp3 players out of sight.

Pre-arrange your transport home.  There are many easy ways for you to get home - which one are you going to take?  Share a car, take turns to be the designated driver,  Pre-book and share a licensed cab.  Pre-arrange a lift.  Get a cab from the Pod or Taxi marshals (outside Xscape).  Don't accept lifts from strangers.

Stay with friends, especially in unfamiliar bars/clubs.  Don't walk home alone when you've been drinking.

Bus Information
Did you know that you can take any bus you see in CMK to travel between destinations i.e. Theatre District/Xscape to the Hub or Railway Station as they all travel through the City Centre.  The cost for each journey would be £1.20 (concessions are available).  Buses run until 23:50hrs

You can buy your Day Saver bus ticket (which will cover all your journeys) at £3.30 on the first Arriva bus you board or by using your mobile phone.  Set it up by registering at arrivabus.co.uk/mticket or text 'Reg' to 82500.  You simply show the driver your pre-purchased m-ticket on your mobile phone screen.

The Milton Keynes Council website can help you plot your journey from home to the City Cenre see www.milton-keynes.gov.uk./transport or you can call the traveline on 0870 200 22 33 or visit www.traveline.info for service information.

Taxi's - how they work in the City Centre
Due to the boulevard and gate design in CMK it is not possible to hail Hackney Cabs (black cabs) as you do in other cities, you must go to a designated rank.  Do not use a prviate hire vehicle if you haven't pre-booked it - you will be uninsured to travel and the driver can be heavily fined.

How Much Do They Cost - Hackney Cabs
Before 10pm there is a base charge of £2.40 plus your journey and after 10pm the base charge increases to £3.60 plus the journey fare.  For example Station to Hub £3, Xscape to Station after 10pm £6.00 and so on.  You can book also book by phone:  Hackney Cabs (Black Cabs) 01908 318888

What is the difference between a Hackney Cab and a Private Hire Vehicle
Licensed taxis all display a licence plate with a unique number for each vehicle.
Hackney Cabs - have white plates these can be both traditional black cabs and other vehicles.
Private Hire Vehicles - have blue plates and must be pre-booked.  Agree the fare before you travel.
