Milton Keynes City Centre Management (MKCCM) is an independent not-for-profit members' organisation funded by contributions, bringing together key stakeholers with an interest in the Central Milton Keynes.
Central Milton Keynes (CMK) is at the centre of one of the UK's fastest growing cities. Designated as a new city in 1967 rather than a new town, despite the fact that we do not have city status, for the purpose of our work we refer to CMK as a City.
First set up in the 1990's to discuss and advise its members' on different aspects of CMK. The Central Milton Keynes Partnership (CMKP) (representing the people) now MKCCM became one of the three member organisations alongside Homes and Community Agency (the national housing regeneration agency and owners of land in the City Centre) and Milton Keynes Council (the planning authority) in the creation of the CMK Development Framework. The Framework is the blueprint for all developments from the Central Railway Station in the west through to Campbell Park and the Grand Union Canal to the East.
In late 2008, we reviewed our structure and operation to ensure we were meeting the expectations of our members' and the other partners' in CMK. The review highlighted areas of change that the organisation needed to undertake to simplify its structure and day to day working. Within this it was agreed that the company name be changed from CMKP to MKCCM to reduce confusion with other local organisations and to state clearly its remit.
Our purpose is to work for the continual improvement of CMK by identifing issues, problems and opportunities that affect life and work in the City Centre. We are the organisation that audits the operational aspects of CMK on behalf of our members and addresses the need for improvements via cross-agency solutions.
